From theme parks to zoos, there’s no shortage of things for families to do in San Diego. There’s something for everyone in the city, and many activities are geared towards kids or are kid-friendly. Here are the top seven family activities in San Diego.
San Diego Zoo
What kid doesn’t love the zoo? The famous San Diego Zoo is one of the most popular things to do in the city with kids. It’s home to over 3700 rare and endangered animals spread across its 100 acres. And don’t feel bad about spending money at the zoo, either. Every dollar you spend at the zoo goes toward animal care and conservation efforts!

If your kids love building things, they’re probably huge fans of LEGO. LEGOLAND California is another popular attraction in San Diego for kids. The resort consists of LEGOLAND California, SEA LIFE Aquarium, LEGOLAND Water Park, LEGOLAND Hotel, and LEGOLAND Castle Hotel. You’ll want to spend at least a few days there in order to experience everything!

SeaWorld San Diego
SeaWorld San Diego offers guests a chance to interact with animals, watch animal shows, and enjoy exciting rides. Families will appreciate the behind-the-scenes tours, which allow guests to learn more about penguins, rays, dolphins, sea otters, and jellyfish. It’s education and entertainment all in one!

One of the largest urban parks in the nation, Balboa Park is home to 17 museums, gorgeous gardens, historic buildings, and more. Many of the museums are kid-friendly, and between the puppet theater and the classic carousel, it’s definitely a hotspot for family entertainment in San Diego. And the best part? Balboa Park is free to enter.

San Diego Natural History Museum
Located in Balboa Park is the San Diego Natural History Museum. The museum is home to fossils, scavenger hunts, and exhibits regarding local geology, ecosystems, and history. It’s the perfect place for families to learn about the geology and biodiversity of San Diego, and it offers hands-on learning experiences!

Birch Aquarium at Scripps
If your kids love marine life, they’ll definitely enjoy the Birch Aquarium. The aquarium displays 60 habitats of fishes and invertebrates, hailing from the Pacific Northwest’s cold waters to the tropical waters of Mexico. There are also interactive educational exhibits for the whole family to enjoy.

Go whale watching
If your family already enjoyed the aquarium, take things a step further by going whale watching. San Diego is one of the best places to go whale watching. You’ll have the chance to spot gray whales, blue whales, and maybe even dolphins! It’s sure to be a memorable experience for the entire family.
