NYC Pride 2021 is just around the corner, and despite all the challenges caused by COVID-19, it looks like it’s going to be another unforgettable event, as New Yorkers and global travelers alike gather to create a welcoming LGBTQIA+ experience.

That being said, there’s a lot going on at this year’s event— so much so that it can be a little overwhelming for those looking to participate, particularly first-timers.

Can I Attend NYC Pride 2021 In-Person?

The pandemic has made it very difficult to organize large-scale events like NYC Pride 2021, but this year’s event will be absolutely thronging with people.

According to the NYC Pride official website, some 50 million people are expected to participate this year.

That’s thanks in large part to the rapid reopening of New York City. While some COVID-related restrictions remain in place, Mayor Bill de Blasio has emphasized he hopes to have removed all of those restrictions by July 1.


What’s the Theme of NYC Pride 2021?

The theme of this year’s Pride Week in NYC is “The Fight Continues.”

Here’s how NYC Pride Co-Chair Andre Thomas explains it:

“With this acknowledgement of what we’re fighting for and the challenges we face, we also must find the strength — together — to continue the fight, ” Thomas said in a statement (via “We’re fighting for ourselves, fighting for the BIPOC and trans members of our community, and fighting or future generations. By making this the 2021 theme for NYC Pride, we acknowledge all that we’ve accomplished and look towards what still needs to be done. NYC Pride events offer an opportunity to gather in community and highlight the diversity, resilience, and power of the LGBTQIA+ community, giving us the energy and spirit we need to continue the fight.”


What’s Happening at NYC Pride 2021?

NYC Pride 2021 will feature more than 50 events, including rallies and lectures, and of course, parties! Some of these events will be in-person and others virtual, but they all look like fantastic experiences.

One of the biggest items on this year’s NYC Pride calendar is the world-famous NYC Pride March, which happens to be celebrating its 50th anniversary. That event goes down on Sunday, June 27. Other highlights include the PrideFest Street Fair, the popular Pride Island event (which is virtual this year), and a family-friendly movie night.
